Police boss reveals how to check increasing cases of bomb explosion

The Commissioner of Police, Anti-Bomb command, Abdulmajid Ali, has identified late information to police as one of the factors responsible for bomb explosions in the country.
Ali said this on Wednesday in Lagos during the passing out parade of 140 Anti-Bomb Police Technicians and Investigators at Ikeja, adding that timely information would assist the men and officers to defuse any explosive.
He said: “The Nigerian society should support this command or our states Explosive Ordnance Devices Units with useful information whenever strange objects or unexploded ordnance is discovered.
“This will lead to rapid response to point of Improvised Explosives Devices discovered on time to disarm and remove them to safe places for demolition, instead of allowing massive destruction when they detonate before we are informed.”
The Commissioner noted that the command has embarked on Bomb Threat/IEDs awareness standard procedure training and response techniques for the Armed Forces and some corporate institutions.
This, according to him, would help the people to have better idea of what constitutes bomb threats and identification of basic IED components.
Ali said that the command was also carrying out regular inspection and monitoring of movements from point to point, handling, storage and usage of explosives.
He called on individuals and organizations to partner the command in the area of corporate and institutional support for procurement of explosives equipment and logistics.
The commissioner commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, for the increase in personnel strength of the command from 600 to about 1,100, stressing that 1,000 more men had been approved for the command.
Ali told the graduands that the expectation was very high just as the task was challenging, reminding them that whenever there would be bomb defusion or expert opinion regarding Explosives/Allied materials, they would be called upon.
Abubakar, represented by AIG Zone 2, Mamah Tsafe, said that the police authority was doing everything possible to ensure that Anti-Bomb command has all the necessary logistics.
Abubakar said that in view of the recent security challenges in the country, a well equipped Anti-Bomb command was needed, assuring that all that they need, including good welfare packages, would be provided.
