The police on Tuesday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Ogundele Ojo, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft and conversion of funds.
The prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant, of no fixed address, and one other person, at large, committed the offence on Aug. 19 at about 12:15 p.m at Adebayo Street in Ado-Ekiti.
Akinwale alleged that the defendant and one other at large stole one Bajaj motorcycle, valued at N295,000 and belonging to one Ogunbiyi Oluwadare.
He said that the defendant and one other, at large, on the same date at about 1:00 p.m near Atikankan Area in Ado-Ekiti, converted the sum of N240,000 from the motorcycle sales to one Sufiyanu Aminu.
He told the court that the one at large with the defendant claimed to have bought a motorcycle from the complainant, Ogunbiyi Oluwadare, under a weekly instalmental payment plan, but failed to pay back and sold the motorcycle to Sufiyanu Aminu.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 390(9) and 383 punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty, while his counsel, Abiola Gboyega, urged the court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Michael Faola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 10 for hearing.
