Police arraign brothers over theft of palm fruits, phone

The police on Friday arraigned two brothers, Adekunle Oguntusi, 35 and Tunde Oguntusi, 32 in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over theft of 34 bunches of palm fruits and a Nokia cell phone valued N38,000.
The defendants, of no fixed addresses, are facing three-count charge of felony, assault and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the brothers on August 29 around 12.30 p.m. at Yasere Camp in Okitipupa conspired to commit felony.
Omoyeigha said that the defendants unlawfully assaulted one Owoyemi Yasere by beating him with stick where he sustained injuries which caused him bodily harm.
The Prosecutor added that the brothers also stole 34 bunches of palm fruits valued N24,000 and a Nokia Android phone valued N14,000, totaling N38,000, property of Yasere.
He said that the offences were contrary to sections 516, 355 and 390(9) Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.I, Laws of Ondo State 2006.
However, the duo pleaded not guilty to the charges against them and the Chief Magistrate, Dickson Ogunfuyi, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each and a surety each in like sums.
The magistrate added that the sureties must produce evidence of one-year tax clearance as part of bail condition as he adjourned the case till Oct. 12 for further hearing.
