Updated: Plateau PDP chairman suspended

The State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State has announced the suspension of the state party Chairman, Dr. Haruna Dabin.
The suspension of Dabin from the party was announced on Monday afternoon in a communique issued shortly after an extra ordinary SEC meeting.
Reading the communique on behalf of the communique drafting committee, the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, Hon. Caleb Mutfwang, said the Secretary of the party, Raymond Dabo, has been mandated to take over the affairs pending the outcome of the findings of the disciplinary committee.
Mutfwang said the executive council was constrained to suspend the chairman pending the full investigation by the party’ disciplinary committee within two weeks, starting from June 16, 2014.
He stated that the council discovered that Dabin had deliberately refused to call for meetings of various organs of the party for an unduly long period of time.
The communique also had it that his suspension was consequent to failure to render account to the party and indications that he instigated some members of the party to institute a law suit against the party in the state.
At the meeting, presided over by the Deputy Governor of the state, Ambassador Ignatius Longjan, Mutfwang said the council still believes that PDP remains the party of the great people of the state and welcomes anybody that wants to join it.
He said the party frowns at the tendency of some members to rush to court without exhausting the mechanism provided for in the party’s constitution for settling internal disputes.
It warned members that henceforth the party will not hesitate to mete out disciplinary measures against such violation of the party’s constitution.
The party promised those aspiring for political offices in the 2015 election that it will create a level playing ground, advising those in position in the party that will likely compromise the impartiality of electoral process leading to the election, to resign from their positions in the interest of fair play, natural justice and good conscience.

Dabin was reportedly suspended for anti-party activities and misconduct.
Though details of the suspension were still sketchy as at press time, there has been no end to the feud rocking the PDP in Plateau State.
Dabin fell apart with members of his executive committee.
He was said to have uncovered plans by his Secretary to create disunity among members of the party in the state.
Dabin disclosed that the secretary dished out invitation for a meeting of the State Executive Committee for June 16, 2014 without informing him.
As a result, Dabin dissociated self from the meeting.
He said the secretary was not directed to call for the meeting.
He said the secretary lacks the constitutional rights to call for such a meeting without directives from the party chairman.
“Members of State Executive Committee should therefore disregard the notice and press statements convening the purported meeting as the aforementioned convened lacks the constitutional powers to convene such a meeting,” he said.
The statement said: “The attention of the state PDP Chairman, Dr. Haruna Dabin, had been drawn to a press statement purported to have been issued by the State Secretary of the party convening a meeting of the State Executive Committee on Monday 16 June 2014 at the Presidential Lodge Jos.”
The statement however informed that an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee was fixed for Monday at the state secretariat.
“An Emergency meeting of the State Working Committee had earlier been slated for Monday 16th June 2014 by 10:00am at the State Secretariat of the Party,” he said.
