The Plateau State Government on Tuesday said that it has been able to generate over N4.21 billion as internally generated revenue in the first half of 2014.
The Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Samuel Pam, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Jos.
Pam described it as a “good feat”.
He commended the staff of the service for their commitment to duty, but called on them to brace up for better results.
Analysis of the revenue collection for the period under review shows that the service collected N2.97 billion, while N1.24 billion came from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Road taxes amounted to N220.52 million, with N85.14 million generated from sales of plate numbers and N72.71 million from car stickers/vehicles tags.
Similarly, the month of May recorded the highest collection of N813,033,465.27 while the lowest was in April with N567,660,013.07.
Pam said: “We hope to improve on our collection before the year runs out.
“The government is doing all it could to give the people of the state the dividend of democracy.
“PSIRS is committed to ensure that it generates substantial amount of money that could enable the Governor Jonah Jang-led administration to provide the desired social amenities to the citizens of the state.”
Pam, who said that the service was aiming higher, disclosed it had initiated measures to block all revenue loopholes for better results to enable the state government meet its obligations to the people.
He disclosed that the service had continued its clampdown on defaulters and had closed down the offices of some organizations, including MTN, which he said owes N15.9 million Development Levy.
The chairman warned all corporate organizations and institutions against tax evasion, an act he described as “criminal” and “destructive”.
