The photographs of the policeman and commercial motorcycle operator, popularly known as okay, killed by gunmen in front of an Assemblies of God Church in Onitsha, Anambra State has emerged.
This came amid a condemnation of the killings by the Campaign for Democracy.
The CD also demanded a probe of the incident and called for the perpetrators to be brought to book.
A statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the CD, Dede Uzor, said: “We the entire human rights family condemned the despicable murder of two innocent Nigerians especially our security man who died on the cause of defending his fellow citizens in today’s open day attack near Assemblies of God church Oguta Road Onitsha , our unalloyed sympathy goes to the unarmed civilians who was also brutally murdered including those who sustain grievous injuries while going for their normal businesses, may their gentle souls rest in peace Amen.
“While we call on Anambra state government to step up security inline measurable with monthly security votes allegedly been collected to the tune of N1.4 million.
“We further urge him to disband the use of motorcycle (Okada) as a means of transport, Anambra state should take a cure from other states like Ebonyi, Imo Enugu, Abia including Delta among other states who has disbanded the use of Okada as a means of transport, this is to checkmate the new upsurge in criminal activities especially now that governorship election is around the corner.
“The state government should take the responsibility of both the funeral and compensation of Ozubulu church and Assemblies of God today’s killings by providing each of the victim the sum of N5 million while those who sustain injury should be given N3 million each .
“We frowned on the inability of the government to install CCTV in all the nooks and crannies of the state and other strategic areas.
“Anambra state and the entire country deserve better security of lives and properties.”
