Vice President Namadi Sambo has said that the Peoples Democratic Party will reclaim Osun State in the August 9, 2014 governorship election.
Sambo said the state was taken over from the PDP by the All Progressives Congress “through the back door”.
Sambo spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at a meeting of the PDP National Campaign Committee for the Osun State governorship election.
The meeting, according to the vice president, was to mobilise and strategise on how the ruling party at the federal level will win the election.
Sambo said: “I want to assure you that the mandate that was taken through the back door will come back to PDP as it was seen after the election in Ekiti State.
“The people will now have the chance to choose for themselves where they belong, which is the PDP.”
The vice president, who spoke before the meeting went into close doors, added that the PDP was prepared to repeat the victory it recorded in the June 21 Ekiti State governorship election.
He said: “We all know that Osun belong to PDP.
“Those people there now never went through a successful election.”
Sambo reiterated President Goodluck Jonathan’s assurance of peaceful, free and fair conduct of the Osun State poll.
He also promised that the committee, which he chairs, would continue to work diligently to ensure the principle of “one man one vote” preached by Jonathan.
The Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih; and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Prof. Rufai Alkali, were among those who attended the meeting.
Others were the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha; Chief Ebenezer Babatope; and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide.
Also at the meeting were former PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, Olusola Oke, and Chief Bode George.
