The Oyo State Wrestling Association on Friday in Ibadan said it had put in place plans to ensure a fruitful year for its athletes.
Sunday Sanni, the Assistant Coach of OSWA, said such plans were being put in place to ensure that the athletes attend as many tournaments as possible.
Sanni said: “We know the benefits of engaging our athletes in competitions and we are planning to ensure that they partake in many competitions.
“They were not able to participate in some national competitions due to paucity of funds which has for some time rendered the association incapacitated.”
Sanni, however, called on individuals and corporate organisations to partner with the association and sponsor wrestlers to national competitions.
He said: “The Oyo State Sports Council can’t do it all alone. We need help from sports-loving Nigerians to reposition wresting in the state.
“There is a lot of potential I see in these athletes and participating in regular competitions will enable them to maximise the benefits of their skills.
“Competitions will sharpen their competitive skills and they will even learn a few things from their opponents.”
