The Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency has warned commercial advertisers and politicians over the indiscriminate erection of billboards and pasting of posters.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan by the Director-General of the agency, Yinka Adepoju.
Adepoju, who warned that illegal erection of billboards would no longer be tolerated, said any one removed would be confiscated.
He said: “We observed that posters are being pasted indiscriminately on fence walls, highway roundabouts, public buildings, monuments and land marks. These banners and billboards are not well positioned.
“Some of the banners are torn, dilapidated and unfortunately did not receive OYSAA’s approval before they are installed.’’
He said the recent inspection by the agency revealed that politicians and other advertisers had erected several illegal billboards.
Adepoju advised political aspirants and their agents to register their interests and intentions with OYSAA at the state secretariat before pasting campaign posters and displaying promotional banners and billboards.
He also called on individuals, corporate bodies, religious organisations, schools, petrol stations, outdoor advertising practitioners and other users of outdoor media to pay up their outstanding rates.
He said: “Advertisement tax is a civic responsibility that must be fulfilled by all to enable government plan adequately for its citizens and carry out other infrastructure development. ’’
