The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday cleared 55 out of the 57 nominees for the caretaker committee chairmanship positions in the 33 local governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas of the state.
Two of the 57 nominees were, however, rejected at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Michael Adeyemo.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi had presented nominees for 28 local government and 29 LCDAs to the assembly instead of 33 local government and 35 LCDAs.
Four local governments in Oyo Zone and Oriire as well as the six newly created LCDAs in both areas were exempted due to an ongoing litigation.
The two rejected nominees were Mudasiru Agbaje for Irepo Local Government Area and Adeleke Taiwo for Asabari LCDA in Iseyin.
They were rejected over issues bordering on certificates and capacity to administer a local government.
Agbaje, who was born in 1970, has a 2016 Advanced NABTEB certificate and works at Agbaje Petroleum, while Taiwo, born in 1975, has a 2013 Bachelor of Arts (Ed) degree from Ekiti State University and works as a teacher.
The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours, Bolaji Badmos, said the screening was carried out in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Local Government Law, 2001 (as amended).
“A total of 57 nominees were screened and 55 were found appointable, while two, who did not meet the requirements, were stepped down,Badmos said.
The assembly also urged the executive arm of government to forward replacement for the two nominees for screening.
It also called on the executive arm to be gender-compliant in the next chairmanship nominations.
Among those confirmed were Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s brother, Teslim; son of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Olamijuwonlo; and Gbade Lana, son of the immediate past Olubadan of Ibadanland.
