The Ondo State Council of Obas has said the proclamation of Dr. Gani Adams as the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland did not come to it as a surprise.
The monarchs said the “antecedent” of Adams “as a remarkable Yoruba man” recommended him for the position.
In a congratulatory message from the Council to the Aare designate, the Obas said: “Your proclamation as Aare Ona Kakanfo did not come as a surprise but the news was received with enthusiasm and joy given your antecedent as a remarkable Yoruba man who is passionate about the cause of yoruba and who has been in the Vanguard of fighting for the emancipation of the Yoruba nation and protecting her interest through peaceful means.”
The Ondo State traditional rulers said they are particularly happy that “our own son from Ondo State is being honoured with this exalted Yoruba military title as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo”, which they stressed “no doubt, symbolises the might of the famous Oyo empire and the Yorubas as a people”.
The Obas said they consider it a thing of joy that an “intelligent, visionary, articulate and energetic Ondo indegene like you have been bestowed with this revered position”.
In the message, which was signed by the Olukare of of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh, who is the Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas, the royal fathers said they rejoice with the Aare designate as he assumes the position.
They prayed God to equip him with the required wisdom and courage to hold the office creditably as he forges ahead in his “determination to fight for the cause of the Yoruba people and foster unity in the Yoruba nation”.
Meanwhile, the Association of Tyre Marketers as well as the Association of Alade Market Women on Thursday paid a congratulatory visit on the Aare Ona Kakanfo designate.
The tyre marketers team was led by Alhaji Isah Alabi, while the Alade Market team was led by Chief Elizabeth Aina Adenuga.
Thanking them for their love and support, the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo asked for prayers from the visitors.
Adams said women carry authority, hence he would rely heavily on their prayers to enable him succeed as the Generalissimo of Yorubaland.
