North-East PDP executives visit Atiku, reaffirm support for Tukur

The North-East zonal executives of the Peoples Democratic Party have
called on party members to seek ways to uplift the party in the zone.
The executives, led by Senator Lawal Girgir, made the call when they
visited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at his Abuja residence on
Wednesday.
They also reaffirmed their support for Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the
National Chairman of the party,
Girgir told Abubakar that their visit was to seek his support on ways
to elevate the party in the North-East and to proffer solutions to the
mirage of problems confronting the party in the zone.
According to him, the dwindling financial position of the party in the
zone has made it difficult for it to function effectively.
Girgir also pleaded with Abubakar not to dump the PDP for the recently
registered Peoples Democratic Movement, adding that the party zonal
executives had come to identify with him.
Responding, Abubakar urged them not to allow themselves to be
intimidated in order to enhance the chances of the zone in the scheme
of things.
He called on the executives to disregard reports of his membership of
the PDM and donated N10 million to the PDP North-East zone.
The zonal Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Al-Amin Muhammed, who spoke with
newsmen on the sidelines of the visit, said the zone was solidly
behind the leadership of Tukur.
Muhammed confirmed Abubakar’s continued membership of the party.
He said: “You know Atiku Abubakar is one of our major stakeholders.
“The party zonal executive paid him a courtesy call as a sign of respect.
“Atiku is a PDP member.
“If he is not in PDP, we would not have been here.”
Muhammed emphasised that the zone would strive to bring all
stakeholders on board with a view to repositioning the party in the
North-East and the nation at large.
