Nollywood producer nabbed with guns in Delta

The Delta State police command has said it arrested one Mike Omoruyi, 38, of Odo Street Obiaruku on Tuesday June 15, 2021 during a routine patrol by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad with one LAR rifle without magazine, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one air rifle, one pump action rifle, one English double barreled gun and two toy guns.

During investigation, according to the command’s spokesman, DSP Edafe Bright, it was discovered that the suspect is a Nollywood producer who hired the weapons for film production.

Bright said further investigation led to the arrest of the suspected gun runner, one Chief Otuya Josiah, 57, of Umuebu community who confessed to renting the weapons to the first suspect at the cost of N50,000 for film production.

In another development, on June 16, 2021, the Divisional Police Officer, Owa-Oyibu Division, led police operatives and some vigilantes to arrest one Monday Igwe, 28, of Owa-Alero community.

There had been credible intelligence that gunshots were usually heard in the community around the suspect’s residence at night time.

A search conducted on his residence led to the recovery of two locally made, cut-to-size pistols.

The suspect confessed that one Frank Ewere Mafile, 32, supplied him cartridges. Frank Ewere Mafile was also subsequently arrested at his home and two locally made cut-to-size pistols were also recovered from him.

Mafile’s confession also led to the arrest of one Ngozi Elelegwu, ‘m’, 39.

“One locally made double barrel gun and three live cartridges were recovered from him. He admitted to have sold 12 live cartridges to Frank Ewere Mafile at the rate of N6,500.

“Monday Igwe also confessed that he bought the arms at Nnewi in Anambra State at the rate of N30,000.

“All suspects have been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation,” Bright said in a statement.

The Commissioner of Police Delta State, Ari Muhammed Ali, has assured members of the public, particularly residents of the state, of the command’s determination to make the state safe for all.

He also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police, and to desist from crime and criminality as the command is motivated more than ever before to go after criminally minded individuals who are bent on destabilizing the security of the state.
