Governor Sani Bello of Niger State has set up a three-man committee to investigate the military/civilian clash of August 4 in the State.
Bello announced this during a condolence visit to the 31 Artillery Brigade in Minna on Wednesday.
Twelve soldiers and seven civilians lost their lives in the clash.
The clash occurred in Kpaidna, Legbe-dagma, Bambe, Kopa, Lunku communities of Bosso Local Government Area of the state.
Bello described the incident as unfortunate, adding that it was unlawful for people to carry arms without permission.
He said: “We need to pay more attention to what is happening in our environment.
“If people are allowed to carry arms like this, then nobody knows what will happen tomorrow.
“We should be conscious of what is going on in our environment.
“The matter will be thoroughly investigated to determine what actually happened.
“My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and we do not pray for something like this to happen again.”
Bello added that the state government would collaborate with the communities and the security agencies to prevent future recurrence.
Earlier, John Mbanifo, the Commanding Officer of 313 Artillery, said arms and ammunitions were recovered from the communities.
Mbanifo said the arms included AK 47 rifles, locally made pistols, revolver guns, 45 loaded Dane guns, 10 clubs and cudgels.
Others were 41 arrows, 18 bow cases, 122 cutlasses as well as machetes and daggers.
Mbanifo added that 12 military officers died in the clash, while an injured soldier was responding to treatment in the hospital.
