Nasarawa Traditional Council has condemned the attack on Emir of Kwandere, Alhaji Ahmadu Al-Makura by some of his aggrieved subjects over alleged land-related disagreement
Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Mustapha Agwai I, who is also the Chairman of the state Traditional Council, made the condemnation during his solidarity visit to the emir on Monday in Lafia.
Agwai I, who was accompanied by other traditional rulers in the state, said the unruly behaviour was uncalled for and unacceptable to the traditional institution in the state.
He urged aggrieved subjects in the Kwandere Emirate to always channel their grievances over any issues to the relevant authorities for appropriate actions to be taken.
The monarch described the assault on Al-Makura as “sacrilegious,” saying the act negated the values which the revered traditional institution would always promote as the custodian of peace.
Recounting his ordeal, Emir of Kwandere said the aggrieved people protested on Friday, expressing their opposition to the move to allocate their land for the construction of the 100 housing units proposed by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
According to him, the people also alleged that the state government forcibly took over their land for the erection of Comprehensive Primary Healthcare Centre as well as International market among others projects.
Al-Makura said that he tried pacifying the protesters when he met with them by appealing to them to put their grievances in writing so as to enable him to present it the governor.
He, however, said shortly after the Juma’at prayer, the aggrieved people went ahead to attack his convoy, injuring some policemen.
