The News Agency of Nigeria on Monday unveiled its football team for the upcoming Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Cup scheduled to hold in Lagos from July 26 to July 31.
The team was formally unveiled at the Agency’s Iganmu office in Lagos on Monday.
The agency’s Head of Sports Desk, Tony Nezianya, unveiled the team, which will be known as the “News Merchants of Iganmu”.
The Technical Adviser of the team, Emmanuel Okara, told members of staff of NAN that the team would be donning sky-blue coloured jerseys in the course of the tournament to reflect the colour emblem of the agency.
Okara said: “Silver or Gold, I am not promising, but if we find ourselves in the finals, we will try and hold the cup with both hands.
“But I assure you that even though we did not have enough time to train, the team is bubbling with enthusiasm and our players are ready to go.
“So, please give us your support.”
The team are expected to take on Sports Day in their first match on July 28 at the Legacy pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos.
The teams participating in the tournament have been placed in four groups, namely: Group A: City FM, Radio Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria, and Super Sports Nigeria.
Group B comprises TVC, Silverbird Television, Sports Vision, Inspiration FM, and COOL FM, while NTA, Nations/Sportinglife, Channels Television, and Sky Sports Nigeria make up Group C.
NAN’s News Merchants will be slugging it out in Group D with Sports Day, Complete Sports, and Top Radio.
