The Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, National Hajj Commission, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has resumed office, pending his confirmation by the Senate.
This was made public in a statement issued by Shafii Sani, who is of the Commission’s Printing Unit on Wednesday.
Sani said Usman formally arrived Hajj House office in Abuja after embarking on a short trip on medical grounds.
He reported that his arrival marks the beginning of his interim leadership, pending confirmation by the Senate as the substantive Chairman and CEO of the Commission.
Professor Usman, who has held various key positions in the public sector, was recently appointed by President Bola Tinubu.
He has a wide experience in Hajj operations, hence expected to guide the Commission during this transitional period.

Speaking at the brief reception held in his honour, Prince Aliu Abdulrazaq expressed delight and gratitude at having the Chairman assume office and called on staff to give him maximum cooperation towards the success of the Commission and in order to achieve its vision and mission.
Abdulrazaq further called on staff to have the fear of Allah in executing their tasks, while acknowledging the importance of continuity, particularly in the face of preparations for the upcoming 2025 Hajj.
The Secretary to the Commission, Dr. Rabiu Abdullahi Kontagora, also welcomed the Chairman to the Commission and expressed how hardworking the Staff of the Commission are, as well as committed and confident in his leadership.
The Director, Administration and Human Resources Management, Babagana Bukar, emphasised on the remarkable ability and diligence of staff towards their duties, adding that they could exceed expectation with a little push and motivation.
Responding on behalf of the Chairman/CEO’s entourage, Dr. Shehu Makarfi appreciated the warm reception accorded the Chairman and also used the opportunity to thank all for their support and expressed his willingness to work with all towards uplifting the Commission.
The Acting Chairman’s tenure will focus on preparing the Commission for the 2025 Hajj operations, including finalising the Commission’s strategic plans and addressing challenges faced during previous Hajj operations.
Pending his confirmation by the Senate, Prof. Usman will continue to oversee all Hajj-related activities, working closely with the government and other stakeholders to ensure a successful Hajj pilgrimage for Nigerian pilgrims.
