Dr. Olufemi Abidoye of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday said more elite expectant mothers now opt for painless deliveries.
Abidoye, Registrar of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at LAUTECH Hospital, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo.
He said: “With the availability of options, many women who can afford it are opting for less painful services in recent times.
“Apart from caesarian sessions, there is now a more advanced procedure called spidual anaesthesia, which is totally painless.
“Many expectant mothers who can afford the new procedure are even travelling abroad for the advanced procedure.
“It is not all births that need to be through caesarian as several factors come to play before experts suggest caesarian sessions.”
Abidoye added that without complications, nothing stops a woman from undergoing normal vaginal delivery.
He restated however that labour pains before child birth were features of normal vaginal delivery.
He stressed that with adequate information on the part of patients and care givers, mother/child mortality would reduce drastically.
