Mikel, Moses nominated for BBC African Footballer award

Super Eagles duo, Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel, have been named on the shortlist for the 2013 BBC African Footballer of the Year.
In February, the pair were pivotal in guiding Nigeria to its first Africa Cup of Nations crown for the best part of two decades.
Ivory Coast’s Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, has also been put forward while Burkina Faso’s Jonathan Pitroipa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon complete the five-man list.
Crystal Palace academy product, Moses, scored six times for the Blues in 2013, including one goal in each leg of Chelsea’s Europa League semi-final victory over FC Basel.
The versatile midfielder secured a season-long loan switch to Liverpool in September and scored on his debut against Swansea City.
Mikel finally ended a seven-year barren spell for the Blues when he scored his first Premier League goal in his 185th appearance for the club to seal a 2-0 victory over Fulham in September.
However, the Nigerian international is better known for his contribution in the defensive midfield, where he has been lauded for his screening duties in the holding role.
The shortlist was compiled after 44 journalists from across Africa participated in a voting process.
This year’s winner will claim the accolade for the first time as none of the nominees have won the award before, though Toure has been nominated for a fifth consecutive year.
The winner will be announced on December 2 at 5:35pm on the BBC’s Focus on Africa radio and television programmes.
