Police operatives attached to the FESTAC Town division of the Lagos State command on Monday arrested one Kingsley Achugbu, 35, for allegedly sexually harassing his wife’s house maid (name withheld) and his two-year-old biological daughter.
The house maid reported the matter to the police, accompanied by one Justina Nelson of the Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, a non-governmental organisation.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the two-year-old victim has been taken to the hospital for medical examination.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the matter be transferred to the Gender Unit of the command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
While reacting to the case at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday, the CP reiterated his commitment to tackle sexual offences and domestic violence headlong in the state.
He also promised to work hand in hand with relevant government agencies and non-governmental organisations to fight the societal menace in Lagos and by extension, in Nigeria.
Odumosu appealed to the general public to always report all cases of sexual harassment and assault and domestic violence to the police or any available relevant government agencies and non-governmental organisations for necessary action.
