Man, 21, docked for alleged N1.8m fraud

A 21-year-old man, Sanni Bako, on Wednesday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for alleged N1.8 million fraud.

Bako, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of fraud to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 5 at 2.30 p.m. at Ikoyi Quarters, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said the defendant collected N1.8 million from the complainant, Mr Fadahunsi Elijah, that he would sell a Toyota Corolla to him but failed to do so.

He said the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

Osanyintuyi said the offence contravened Sections 383(3), 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Defence Counsel, Olalekan Babatunde, urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

Babatunde promised that his client would not jump bail but would provide substantial sureties.

Magistrate O. B. Adediwura granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adediwura ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She added that one of the sureties must be land owner, while both sureties should provide evidence of three years tax clearance to the Osun State Government.

Adediwura adjourned the case until Aug 30. for mention.
