Maku promises women 40% appointments if elected

Labaran Maku, Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Nasarawa State, has promised to give 40 per cent of appointments in his administration to women, if elected.
Maku, a former Minister of Information, made the promise at the maiden edition of the Nasarawa governorship debates, organised by Nasarawa Coalition of Business and Professional Associations on Tuesday in Lafia.
According to him, strong gender policies that will benefit women will be established and women will be given 40 per cent participation in the government if he is elected.
Maku said that women had suffered unjustly in the hands of some politicians for too long, assuring them of a change of narrative if he is voted into office.
On investors, Maku said he would make Nasarawa State a business-friendly environment, to attract local and foreign investors for businesses to thrive, thereby enhancing its economic status.
Maku promised to address unemployment by empowering youths and women to create wealth by themselves in order to reduce overdependence on government.
On agriculture, he promised to provide security for farmers to enable them to develop farming activities.
He said that his government would support commercial and subsistence farming as well as establish storage centres.
Maku said that modern facilities would be installed at Lafia Rice Mill to enhance production and also encourage patronage of local products, to serve as incentives for local production.
On mining, he said he would stop illegal mining, promising to bring investors with technical know-how to train local people in order to work with investors to harness the rich mines in the state.
On health, Maku said he would reform the sector by training and retraining health personnel for quality health delivery and make health care accessible and affordable for all.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Maku was one of the four governorship candidates that participated in the debate.
Others who participated are Umaru Ajaja of Action Democratic Party, David Ombugadu of Peoples Democratic Party and Aliyu Akwe-Doma of Zenith Labour Party.
