Leicester City qualify for Champions League

Leicester City have become the first Premier League side to guarantee their place in next season’s Champions League.
The Foxes have enjoyed a remarkable campaign, turning themselves from relegation candidates to title favourites and opening up a 10-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.
The result also took them 19 points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United, who needed to avoid defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the day’s late kickoff in order to prevent Leicester wrapping up a top-four spot.
However, Louis van Gaal’s side conceded three goals in less than six second-half minutes on their way to a 3-0 defeat at White Hart Lane to remain 19 behind the leaders with only 18 points left to play for this term.
Leicester will now be appearing in Europe’s elite competition for the first time in their history next season, and will hope to do so as champions of England having moved to within three wins of the title today, despite Tottenham’s victory closing the gap back to seven points.
The Foxes have featured eight times in European competition before, with four games in both the Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Cup yielding two wins, two draws and four defeats.
