The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter has commiserated with the Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, over the demise of his mother, Awawu Gafaar.
The condolence message was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman, Lagos State SWAN, Debo Oshundun.
In the statement on Saturday, Oshundun prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased, just as he said the thoughts and prayers of the members of the association are with the entire Gafaar family.
Oshundun also prayed with the LSSC Director General and the entire family to have the fortitude to bare the irreparable loss.
He said: “Lagos SWAN urged the Gafaar family to accept our condolences over Mama’s death.
“We believe she is gone to rest with her maker.
“Though, no matter how old our parents are, we still don’t wish to lose them, but we cannot question the Almighty Allah because He gives and He takes.
“However, our prayer is for Almighty Allah to grant her Aljanah Fridau and may her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Madam Gafaar, also known as Iya Ijebu, aged 94, breathed her last during a brief illness on Friday.
She was interred on Saturday according Muslim rites.
