The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has decorated a former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, with the country’s second highest honour.
The DPRK gave the honour to the former governor because of his efforts in implementing the Memorandum Of Understanding between North Korea and Nigeria signed in 2005 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The MOU has provision of technical assistance to Nigeria by Korea in the area of farming, health, Information Communications Technology and teaching.
According to the Ambassador extra-ordinary of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Jong Unug Choi, the honour was given to Yerima because Zamfara State remains the only state in Nigeria to have fully implemented terms of the MOU between the two countries.
Speaking after he was decorated, the Senator representing Zamfara East Senatorial District, said he played a major role in the implementation of the agreement between both countries when he was in office as governor, adding that the agreement is working well in Zamfara State up till now.
