Jurgen Klopp and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both spoke to Victor Osimhen on the phone about a potential transfer, according to reports.
The Nigerian sealed a £45 million switch from Lille to the Serie A outfit Napoli earlier this week, ending a long-running saga about his next destination.
Several top clubs in Europe had been linked with the 31-goal striker, who is very highly rated on the continent.
Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal were credited with an interest in the 21-year-old, with scouts sent to watch him.
Liverpool and Manchester United were also mentioned as potential transfer destinations, and reports coming out of France claim this is true.
L’Equipe claimed that Reds boss Klopp and Red Devils boss Solskjaer spoke to Osimhen recently on the phone.
Liverpool have been on the lookout for another forward to help ease the pressure of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Klopp was initially planning ahead for next January, when Salah and Mane were set to jet off to the Africa Cup of Nations.
The competition has since been postponed until 2022 due to the coronavirus, giving Liverpool additional breathing space in the transfer market.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer is looking for more attacking reinforcements to help bolster his squad for next season.
Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial started to fire towards the end of the last campaign, but another out and out goalscorer is still needed.
And it seems Osimhen could have easily ended up in the Premier League with his then agent keen on his client to move to England.
During Napoli’s negotiations for the striker, the deal was held up when the player changed his agent.
It’s believed that William D’Avila tried to stall the deal in a bid to land his client a move to the Premier League.
Liverpool CEO Peter Moore, who will leave Anfield at the end of August, is said to have a good connection with Osimhen’s new agent which is why there was contact from the Reds.
