Rev. Fr. Franklyn Odiaka and Rev. Fr. Moses Nwaonwochei, who were kidnapped by gunmen at Obior in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State on their way from a special prayer service on Thursday, have been released, THISDAY is reporting.
Odiaka is the Parish Priest of Catholic Church of Assumption (Zappa Parish), Asaba in Delta State.
THISDAY said it learnt that the priests regained their freedom on Monday but details of their release were still sketchy last night.
The kidnappers demanded for a N100 million ransom after they reportedly contacted some clergymen close to the abducted priests serving in the Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku.
It could, however, not be ascertained whether any ransom was paid to secure the release of the two men, but THISDAY said it learnt that the position of the Catholic Church was that no ransom should be paid to any criminal.
The spokeswoman of the Delta State Police Command, Celestina Kalu, could not be reached for confirmation of the development on Monday night.
