Nigeria’s Head Coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, has agreed to withdraw the resignation letter he submitted to his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation shortly after he led Nigeria to victory in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Keshi took the decision after an emergency meeting that lasted several hours, where he was prevailed upon.
The meeting, as exclusively reported by The Eagle Online, took place late last night in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The meeting was attended among others by Keshi; the Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Yobo; the Minister of sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi; and the President of the NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari.
Abdulahi, alongside some influential Nigerians, who were in South Africa for the Africa Cup of Nations, were said to have prevailed on Keshi not to see through his threat to quit.
Keshi, it was gathered, was told that all his demands would be met and that the threat of hiring a foreign coach not longer existed.
As at press time, the team was at the OR Thambo International Airport, Johannesburg, checking in, in preparation for the journey to Nigeria.
The President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, is to receive the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
