The Katsina State Government is ready to sponsor a pro-league clubside, Spotlights Football Club, for an international pre-season soccer tournament.
The state Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Safana, stated this while addressing the team’s players and coaches at the Ahmad Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Safana said: “I am assuring you that the state government is ready to sponsor the team anywhere in the world for pre-season tournaments as you were sponsored to Burkina Faso last year for the same purpose.”
Safana said based on the club’s performance in the last football season as well as pre-season tournament currently taking place in Kaduna, the state government will continue to support the team towards achieving the desired objective.
He said that the state government has spent millions of naira in the promotion and development of sports, especially with the construction of the 35,000-seaters Karkanda Stadium in the state
The commissioner, however, expressing satisfaction with the brilliant performance of the players and commended the club’s management for their commitment and dedication towards the overall development of the team.
Responding on behalf of the players and coaches, the team’s Co-ordinator, Ayuba Umar, pledged that the club’s management will continue to redouble their efforts in ensuring a successful football season by securing promotion to elite class at the end of forthcoming football season.
Umar then commended Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema for his moral and financial support.
He also promised that the team will not disappoint the people of the state.
