Kashamu reports ‘Obasanjo’s daughter’ over attempts to poison ex-president

Detectives attached to the Zone II Police Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos State said they arrested a lady who posed as the daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, demanding money from Senator Buruji Kashamu in order to poison her supposed “father”.
This revelation came just hours after the sudden withdrawal of Kashamu’s N20 billion libel suit against Obasanjo.
According to the police, the lady, identified as Yetunde Obasanjo, accompanied by a man named Peter Uwakala, were alleged to have gone to meet the senator in a hotel where the lady, later unveiled to be Victoria Alaegbu, introduced herself as one of Obasanjo’s daughters.
The man, who accompanied her, introduced himself as one of the intelligence officers of the former president.
The duo allegedly called the former president names and urged Kashamu to allow them to poison him, allegedly in exchange for some money.
A police source said: “Before they talked about causing harm to Obasanjo, they said they wanted to resolve the political rift between Kashamu and Obasanjo.”
Rather than grab the opportunity to deal with his enemy, the senator, who was suspicious of the lady and man, alerted policemen.
While the suspects were still waiting to hear from him, it was the police they heard from.
The two had since been arrested and charged to court.
They were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo at the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on June 5, 2015 and remanded in Kirikiri Prisons.
The matter was adjourned to July 31, 2015.
Kashamu’s media aide, Austin Oniyokor, while confirming the incident, said the matter was in court.
Oniyokor added that his boss’s conduct was proof that he had no ill feelings towards Obasanjo and that he respected the sanctity of human life.
The police said: “The suspects met with the senator at a hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on May 8, 2015, where they demanded for an unspecified amount from him in order to harm Obasnajo. The X-Squad section of Zone II was detailed to handle the investigation and we soon arrested Uwakala and Alaegbu. We later found out that they were not known to the ex-president. Investigation revealed they were impersonators.
“They told the senator they were going to resolve the political rift between him and Obasanjo. He said the suspects met him at Best Western Hotel, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, where they made uncomplimentary and derogatory remarks about Obasanjo. They said the ex-president was bad and wicked, that most of his workers hate him and wouldn’t mind to poison him if they get the opportunity.”
