Former international, Kanu Nwankwo, has admonished Nigerians to pray for success of the Super Eagles in the ongoing African Cup of Nations.
Papilo, as he’s fondly called, posited that the draw against Burkina Faso was not enough to write off the team.
The former Arsenal striker, who described the draw against the Burkina Faso as painful, however, sounded optimistic on the chances of the team to progress to the next stage.
Nwankwo said: “The draw against Burkina Faso is hard to take after hard work from our players.
“Just one second, we lost three points and got one.
“I believe God knows best.
“To all Nigerians, please let’s pray for our team and God will see us through to the next stage.”
The two-time African footballer of the year award winner also admonished the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation to continue to motivate the players.
In a related development, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, said on Thursday that he has no doubt the Super Eagles will overpower their Zambian counterparts when both teams clash at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday in the ongoing 29th Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Speaking at his Emnotweni Hotel in Nelspruit, South Africa as Nigeria football’s top hierarchy countenances Friday’s clash of titans, Maigari insisted that nothing had been lost and won by any of the teams in the group and that it would be like a fresh start on Friday evening.
