Eminent businessman and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has felicitated with a former Military President, retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 72nd birthday.
Kalu, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, described Babangida as a true statesman for his contributions to the political, social and economic development of Nigeria.
He said: “No matter what we feel about his governance style, especially the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, you cannot take it away from General Babangida that he contributed his own quota to the development of Nigeria.
“Right from his days in the military, when he was a part of the Civil War, to being a part of the team that truncated the Major Gideon Okar-led coup that would have split Nigeria, and his contributions after his retirement from the military, Babangida has displayed qualities of a leader whose sole intention is the good of the country.”
Kalu wished Babangida many more years on earth in good health.
