President Goodluck Jonathan is presently meeting with the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Presidential Villa, Abuja ahead of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum election slated for Monday in Abuja.
There was no official statement on why the meeting was called, but it was gathered that President Jonathan conveyed it so as to be able to calm frayed nerves.
The meeting started around 8.45pm.
There has been uneasy calm amongst the governors as some of the PDP governors are said to be spoiling for war with the NGF Chairman, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, whom they are accusing of being arrogant.
As at the time of filling this report, the meeting is still ongoing.
Though the meeting was said to be private.
It could not be ascertained what the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and her counterpart in the Ministry of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, who were sighted at the venue, were doing.
Governors Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State and Gabriel Suswam of Benue State are said to be the arrowheads of the anti-Amaechi campaign.
Interestingly, the governors, who are loyal to the President, could not remove Amaechi at the Forum’s meeting last Wednesday in Abuja.
