The Management of Jos Electricity Distribution Company has said it is deeply disturbed over the recent propaganda on social media, particularly WhatsApp, that it charges its customers far above other electricity distribution companies in Nigeria.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Company, Alhaji Mohammed Modibbo Gidado, debunked the insinuation on Tuesday during an interactive session with newsmen in Jos.
Gidado said the tariffs being enjoyed all over the county is the one approved by the regulatory body, Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, in 2015, and can only be reviewed after a constructive consultation with stakeholders and must be approved by regulatory bodies.
He said: “As it is now, tariffs as regulated by NERC for 2017 are as follows: Jos: 29.81; Abuja: 24.30; Benin: 34.40; Enugu: 34.40; Ibadan: 24.97; Kano: 29.61; Ikeja: 21.73; Port-Harcourt: 30.23; Eko: 28.49; and Yola: 28.17.
“So since last year we have not had any tariff increase.”
Gidado however raised the alarm over the rampant illegal connection and vandalization of power installation wires in communities in Plateau State and its environ.
