Super Eagles and Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi, has joked that his teammate, Alexis Sanchez, robbed him of the first goal against Hull City last weekend.
The 20-year-old thought he’d given the Gunners the lead at the KC Stadium, but Sanchez was awarded the goal after getting the faintest touch on the ball.
Iwobi tweeted that he was robbed of what he thought was his goal, but later said it wasn’t important as long as the team won.
“I honestly thought I’d scored”, Iwobi told Arsenal.com. But he kept on saying ‘I got a touch, I got a touch!. ‘Please, let it be my goal’!
“At the end of the day, we won, so that’s all that matters.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has revealed why he kept faith with the young forward after an impressive display against Hull City.
The Nigerian attacker grabbed two assists in the 4-1 win over the Tigers, including a delicious back-heel to Theo Walcott for the second goal.
Iwobi only broke into Arsenal’s first-team toward’s the end of last season but Wenger is a big admirer of his talent and he is repaying handsomely
“I started him last year because I see that there’s something in him that is quality of vision, quality of give and go of movement’, Wenger said.
“He can break the lines with a pass and individually as well, so there’s a lot in the player.
“Overall, he’s only 20 years old so you could see that he has gained confidence now. He can take people on much more and has gained power as well. It’s interesting what he has done.”
