The operatives of the Inspector General of Police Response Team have arrested the kidnappers of the Unit Commander of Mobile Police 55 in Aba, Abia State, ASP Solomon Nyakno Aniefiok.
The MOPOL Commander was kidnapped on January 14, 2018.
Aniefok was kidnapped as he went on visiting round to check his men in the field.
He was suddenly blocked and kidnapped by AK47 rifle carrying kidnappers.
He was eventually released three days later after ransom was paid.
Irked by the development, the IGP, Ibrahim Idris, deployed operatives of the IRT to Abia State to arrest the kidnappers to justice.
Based on the IGP’s directives one of the best IRT teams was deployed and after six days of unrelenting follow up, five of the Kidnappers were arrested alive and one kidnapper met his waterloo during a gun battle with IRT operatives.
Exhibits recovered were one AK47 rifle with serial no 56-2550382 with two magazines and 60 live ammunitions, one Barretta service pistol of the Mopol Unit Commander, one locally made pistol and two cartridges, one police bullet proof jacket, one police vest, two head warmers, one MOPOL jungle cap MONG OTHER.
The kidnappers arrested were:
Ifeanyi Stanley Ekpelulor, aka One Man Squad, who is 36 years old. A native of Osisioma LGA, Abia State. He is the gang leader and a Recruit dismissed during Police training in 2006. He confessed to three kidnap operations in Abia State.
John Alozie, aka Alagboso, who is 26 years old. Also a native of Osisioma, Abia State, he confessed to the kidnap of the Unit Commander and two other kidnappings.
Ogbonna Wesley, 31 years.
Eze Obinna, 22 years. A native of Isiala Ngwa, Abia State. He also confessed to the Unit Commander’s kidnap and used victim’s ATM card to withdraw money.
Eze Orji, 58 years. A native of Isiala Ngwa, Abia State.
Osioma Paul, wife to a kidnapper, now in prison and sister-in-law to the gang leader arrested, Ifeanyi Stanley, was equally arrested for keeping the operational rifles and ammunitions for the kidnappers in her house.
Serious efforts to arrest the few remaining gang members are in progress, The Eagle Online was told.
