Eight notorious armed robbers and their collaborators operating in Abuja have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari.
The arrested suspects have been linked with robberies around Apo and Mabushi Axis of Abuja.
They were also said to have robbed the house of Nasir Yusuf, a staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation on January 22, 2018.
In Yusuf’s house, they carted away a Mercedes Benz E350 with chasis number WDBUF87X78B193442, Ford Escape Jeep 2.0 with chasis number 1FMCUOG9XDUC00691 and other expensive valuables and gadgets.
The suspects were arrested between February 1 and 13, 2018 during unrelenting follow up by operatives of the IRT, deployed by IGP Ibrahim Idris to bring the armed robbers to justice.
Available information has it that the armed robbers and those who receive their stolen items, move some of them, especially vehicles, to Niger Republic, where they were arrested.
They all confessed to multiple robberies in Abuja and mentioned the various roles each gang member played in all their robberies.
Those arrested were Felix Iheanacho, 37, the overall gang leader; Emmanuel Manase, 29, the second-in-command; Daniel Talumun, 26; Ibrahim Musa, 32; Tayo Oyemaki, 24; Promise Ruben, 25, Danjuma Mustapha, 29, a notorious stolen car receiver in Abuja and trans border stolen car dealer; and Mustapha Labaran, 42, based in Katsina State and a specialist in conveying robbed cars from Nigeria to Niger Republic.
Three TV sets and other items were recovered from the armed robbers, while efforts to recover the remaining goods and the two stolen cars and others moved to Niger Republic are in progress.
