Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister, Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, on Monday said the president of the regional government of Catalonia is creating confusion.
The Spanish government said that Carles Puigdemont did not clarify whether he declared independence of the region or not.
“It was not very difficult to say yes or no,” Saenz de Santamaria said.
She added that they were asking him to be clear on a very important issue.
She said: “Extending a situation of uncertainty and deliberate confusion only favours those who want to undermine harmony and impose an extremist project.’’
Saenz de Santamaria said that Puigdemont has to reply by October 26 to Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy’s new letter, to clarify the situation again.
She stated: “Nobody denies a dialogue, but it has to be under the law and has to be clear and in the congress of deputies, where all citizens are represented.”
The Catalan leader, in a letter to Rajoy, explained that his decision to “suspend” the results of the October 1 independence referendum has shown a “firm willingness to find a solution and not confrontation”.
