The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, will now receive the delegation of the Nigeria Football Federation and the Super Eagles with the Africa Cup of Nations trophy, in Calabar on Wednesday.
Sources close to the Cross River State Government disclosed on Monday that Governor Imoke opted for a Wednesday afternoon reception as he has an official engagement in Abuja on Thursday morning.
The President of the NFF, Aminu Maigari, will lead the NFF and Super Eagles’ crew to the reception, to appreciate the support of the Government and
people of Cross River State to the team’s qualification and eventual victory in South Africa.
Meanwhile, a 25-man delegation of the Harambee Stars will depart Nairobi on Thursday morning aboard a Kenyan Airways flight, to arrive in Lagos in the afternoon.
Alhaji Omar Sey of The Gambia, the Match Commissioner, will arrive in Nigeria on Wednesday, same day the referees from Botswana are expected in town.
World football-governing body, FIFA, has appointed Patrick Beckles from Barbados as Security Officer for Saturday’s showdown at the U. J. Esuene Stadium.
It will be recalled that FIFA had earlier appointed Joshua Bondo from Botswana as referee, with his compatriots Meshack Medupi, Moemedi Monakwane and Kutlwano Leso as Assistant Referee 1, Assistant Referee 2 and Fourth Official respectively.
Richard Mbaku-Fonjah from Cameroon will be the Referee Assessor.
