Super Eagles returnee, Ikechukwu Uche, has said that though he would do everything humanly possible to match the expectations of many Nigerians demanding his return when the team files out against the Red Devils of Congo in this weekend’s Africa Nations Cup qualifiers, it does not in any way put any form of pressure on him.
Fielding questions from journalists during a media parley at the team’s camp in Abuja, the Spain-based in-form attacker, however, warned Nigerians to reduce their expectations since football is a team and not individual game.
He assured Nigerians that members of the Super Eagles are mentally ready to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians this weekend.
His words: “It will be wrong to assume that I am going to do the job alone.
“The responsibility is for the team and I am just part of the team.
“All I can promise is to try my possible best, but let me emphasise that this is not job for one person.
“It is a team work.
“Good enough that we are all prepared as a team to do our nation proud.
“It is beyond what I can do as a person but what every member of the 24-man team will contribute to ensure that we succeed on Saturday.
“I want to say that I am particularly happy with the pressure from almost every Nigerian insisting that I must join the team.
“I am just happy to be back and I hope God will help me try my best to give them something to cheer.
“My return and expectations from Nigerians don’t put any form of pressure on me whatsoever.”
Meanwhile, Eagles gaffer, Stephen Keshi, has expressed happiness of the return of the Nigerian international.
Keshi said: “It is always good and a thing of joy to have your players with you.
“Coach and players should understand themselves, but some people outside don’t understand.
“However, I want to say that it is good to see him and the rest of the members of the team.”
