The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, has urged foreign nationals in Lagos State not to be scared of visiting the state for business transactions or for any other reasons.
Manko said this on Monday while addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters, Ikeja, over the rescue of a Briton, Dickson Lee, who was kidnapped on July 16.
His words: “There should not be any need for fear by foreigners who want to come to Lagos State.
“Lagos is one of the safest places anyone, especially foreigners, can be right now.
“They should not allow the experience of Dickson Lee to make them stay away from Lagos.”
Manko used the opportunity to, once again, kick against the families of kidnapped victims paying ransom to kidnappers.
According to him, it was because people were too quick to pay ransom demands by kidnappers that more criminals continue to venture into the crime.
Manko, who said that Dickson lee was kidnapped at Mafoluku area of Lagos State, revealed that the Briton was rescued on Sunday after one of the suspects, Benson Chukwuemeka, came to Lagos-Badary Expressway to pick up the ransom.
Manko added: “There were two of them, but one escaped with bullet wounds, while Chukwuemeka was arrested.
“Dickson Lee was rescue without any ransom paid.
“He was not injured.
“Chukwuemeka is already making confessional statement, which would help us to go after other members of the gang.
“Dickson Lee has gone to take treatment.
“After we arrested Chukwuemeka, he took us to Okota where the victim was kept.”
Manko further revealed that he and the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airport Command were already working out modalities to make the airport axis formidable security wise.
