The Commissioner, Delta State Police Command, Zanna Ibrahim, has given details of how an undergraduate of the Federal University of Petroleum, Warri, Delta State, David Kalu, was killed and his body dumped in the lagoon.
Kalu’s body has since been recovered from the lagoon.
Ibrahim said Kalu was suspected to have been killed by his fellow students, including Tega Waritoma and Abubakar Ogbebor, who have since been arrested by the police.
So also has the Manager of the hostel in the university, where the students were staying before the alleged murder, William Odiete, been arrested.
Williams said it had been established that Waritoma and Ogbebor participated in Kalu’s murder.
Kalu was said to have escaped been killed on two previous occasions.
He was said to have had a quarrel with one of his roommates, Kalu Joseph.
The matter was reported to Odiete.
Sequel to this, Odiete allegedly led some other workers of the hostel and students, including Waritoma and Ogbebor, to Kalu’s room, forced their way into the room, dragged him out and gave him the beating of his life.
But he escaped.
Kalu was also said to have escaped on another occasion when an attempt was made on his life by the same people.
He was said to have scaled the fence of the hostel.
Ibrahim said: “He (Kalu) managed to escape from the scene but his corpse was later found in nearby lagoon.”
He said since the suspects broke into Kalu’s room and mobbed him on two occasions, they were the prime suspects in the murder.
He said as soon as the interrogation of the suspects was completed and others who took part in the murder were arrested, they would be charged to court.
