Heavy downpour on Monday night and Tuesday morning sacked most parts of Minna, the Niger State capital, causing lots of damages.
Residents were forced to stay indoors most part of Tuesday owing to this.
It was gathered that houses, fences, mini bridges were washed away by the heavy rain, even as residents of some areas were seen pumping out water from their houses with the aid of pumping machines.
One of the worst affected areas was Barikin Sale and Farm centre in Tunga.
Others included Niteco, Farm Centre, Tunga, Barikin Sale and Nykangbe-Kpakungu areas.
The development, it was gathered, forced civil servants, children and owners of businesses in Minna to remain at home as the mini bridges that links Barikin Salle to the road were destroyed by the rain.
At Niteco Road, the rain flooded all the shops along the major road and soaked their wares.
Owners of shops had to close businesses since their goods were soaked as a result of the heavy down pour that flooded their shops.
Our correspondent gathered also that at Nykangbe area, the rain flooded the main bridge, along the Minna-Bida Road, thereby making vehicular movement very difficult for road users.
Houses were not also spared as the heavy rain washed away fences of houses along the major road.
While lamenting the development and challenges caused by the rain, some of those affected by the heavy down pour told our correspondent that some of the drainages are blocked.
One of the residents, Mallam Musa Nda, said: “When the rain started late in the evening, I never knew this will happen to me.
“My house is flooded.
“Where am I going to start from now?
“Fences of other people were destroyed.
“It stopped many from going to work because the small connecting bridges were destroyed.”
A commuter, who gave his name as Iliya Mustapha, said he could not move his car as the oads in Tunga were flooded and there was no way he could even see with the heavy downpour.
“I had to park my car close to the Niger State House of Assembly and waited for the rain to subside a little before I drove home,” Mustapha said.
