Hell was let loose on Monday in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State following the terror unleashed by gunmen who operated in the area.
The hoodlums killed two persons at the popular Benue Market where yam is sold in large quantity and shot a woman that raised the alarm.
The gunmen were said to have waited for the traders to retire to their sleeping mats before they struck.
One of the victims told The Eagle Online: “We had retired to the place we usually sleep after the day’s trade and sleeping when they appeared from nowhere and robbed us one after the other.
“On approaching that last person who happened to be a woman, out of fear, she raised the alarm: ‘thief o, thief o’, immediately one of the bandits fired her two legs.”
The bandits were said to have escaped unhurt with millions of naira belonging to the trades, many of whom came from the North to sell their agricultural produce.
According to the victims, as the bandits were escaping through Egwari Lane, they stumbled on one Batreme Medi and killed him before they moved to Almona Lane where they rained heavy bullets on another victim, simply identified as Friday Okoro, a.k.a. Osmond, killing him also on the spot.
No arrest was made as the hoodlums escaped into their hideouts.
The woman has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the locality.
The incidence was immediately reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Obiaruku.
