FRSC warn motorists to observe traffic rules during Ember months

The Federal Road Safety Commission in Ondo State on Friday, cautioned motorist to avoid driving against the traffic and observe all traffic rules on the highway during this season.
The commission also warned motorists against over speeding which was responsible for the high rate of accidents along the Shagamu-Ore-Benin expressway.
Umoru Abdullahi, the Unit Commander in Ore, made the observation at a programme to commence the Ember Month tagged “Crash the Crash, Speed Kills’’ in Ore.
According to him, one way driving had resulted in several crashes on the highway causing loss of lives and property.
Abdullahi said: “Road accidents are caused by human errors, motorists should always put on the safety belt and avoid over speeding, wrong overtaking, use of expired tyres and overloading of goods and passengers.
“Most of the road crashes are recorded during the ember months not because the months are bad but because most drivers violate traffic rules.
“We organised this campaign to ensure road users were cautious and obey traffic rules in order to save their lives and that of the passengers.”
Abdullahi, however, said the command would deploy its officers on the Shagamu-Ore-Benin highway to caution motorists during the period and enforce traffic rules.
NAN reports that the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Road Transport Employees of Nigeria, the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria and stakeholders attended the programme.
