A new round of battle is brewing between the League Management Company, owners of the newly registered Nigeria Professional Football League, and the Club Owners over the subversion of its directors.
The LMC, in its quest for registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission on January 30, 2013, had listed four directors as owners of NPFL.
These are Nduka Irabor; Aminu Maigari, representing the Nigeria Football Federation; The Chairman of Kaduna United, Alhaji Sabo Babayaro; and Seyi Akinwumi of the Lagos State Football Association.
But the club owners have frowned at this development.
They are therefore poised for a fresh showdown with the LMC, which might force the stoppage of the league.
The Club Owners will, in a matter of days, summon all the Premier League club managers to a meeting in Abuja to harmonise their position on the development .
Feelers from the clubs have it that they might likely call for the suspension of the league.
“We are scheduling a meeting in Abuja, possibly during the continental week, to discuss on the latest development,” a top notch of the club owners hinted.
According to him: “What the LMC has done is to take away the league from the clubs and make it a personal property of three individuals.
“We shall resist this ugly development because the teams are co-directors of the league and not the personal property of individuals as the LMC has done.”
Already, the application, which was prepared by George Aminu and Partners for the LMC, has been verified and approved on March 1, 2013 by the CAC.
