Nigeria continued her downward slide in global football going by the latest FIFA ranking released in the early hours of Wednesday.
The once dreaded Super Eagles is now ranked 63rd in the world, moving three steps down again as against her 60th position in April.
Furthermore, Nigeria has now moved down to 12th position in Africa with Elephants of Cote d’ivoire as Africa’s best.
Surprisingly, the Lone Stars of Sierra Leone are now ranked better in Africa than the Nigerians.
In comparison to last month, there were only a few changes to the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.
In many countries, the national championships are drawing to a close, which explains the small number of matches played at international level: only eight, all of which were friendlies, unfolded over the past month.
Spain is still at the top of the global ladder ahead of Germany and Uruguay, followed by the Netherlands and Portugal.
The only change in the top 30 has been Argentina’s ousting of Denmark to occupy ninth place.
The composition of the top 50 remains unchanged.
With 28 teams, UEFA remains the best represented confederation in the top 50, followed by CONMEBOL (9), CAF (7), CONCACAF (3) and the AFC (3).
In 130th place, New Zealand are Oceania’s top-ranked team.
The June edition will undoubtedly bring more movement with it, as friendlies are played in Europe to warm up for UEFA EURO 2012 and another batch of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil qualifiers influence the calculations.
