The Super Eagles have dropped to the fifth position in Africa despite retaining their spot in the global ranking in the latest FIFA world ranking released on Thursday.
In June, the African Champions were rated as the 31st best in the world before they made a downward slide to 35 in the July ranking.
This position was not good enough as they slipped to fifth place in Africa with the Desert Foxes of Algeria taking up their previous fourth position.
Meanwhile, Cote d’Ivoire remains at the summit of African football with 962 points, which put them in the 18th position in the world, while Ghana is 24th in the world and second in Africa. Mali took the third spot on the continent after amassing 735 points, which places them in the 32nd spot in the world.
The surprise package on the log is Cape Verde, which moved up to the 36th place in the world and sixth in Africa, with four points behind Nigeria.
Spain, Germany and Colombia hold the first, second and third spots in the world respectively as FIFA Confederations Cup champions, Brazil, are ninth in the world.
