The Federal Ministry of Health has said that it was ready to partner with individuals and groups to effect an efficient Health Supply Management Chain in the country.
Senator Adeleke Mamora, Minister of State, FMOH, gave the assurance in a statement issued by the Assistant Director of Press and Publicity of the ministry, Eunice Akro, on Monday in Abuja.
Mamora made the statement during a courtesy visit by a team from the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management, Nigeria, led by Country Director, Mike Egboh.
The minister expressed government’s desire for continuous partnership and collaboration with the organisation towards the development, integration and actualisation of the Nigerian Health Supply Chain system.
Earlier, Egboh, Country Director, informed the minister that the GHSC-PSM Nigeria, supported by the Global Fund and managed by Chemonics International commenced health procurement and supply management operations in Nigeria in July 2016.
He said that so far, GHSC-PSM has assisted the government to procure, warehouse and distribute HIV, malaria and family planning commodities to over 18,000 facilities.
He said that they had also provided technical assistance in supply chain operations to the federal and state ministries of health.
The country director said that the objective of the project was to improve health outcomes by ensuring uninterrupted supplies of health commodities directly to the health facilities to prevent suffering, save lives and create a brighter future for Nigerians.
The Minister of State commended the team for the laudable initiative and for identifying challenges in the health supply chain as well as their attempts to redress the issues.
Mamora stated that the programme was timely, to further support the efforts of the present administration in the attainment of its Universal Health Coverage initiative, which, he said, was to ensure that all Nigerians has access to quality health services at all times.
