A pro-Abubakar Atiku support group, Atiku Renaissance Group, has accused the Federal Government of planning to frame Former president, Atiku Abubakar, for the killings by suspected herdsmen.
The group stated this on Thursday in a statement signed by Awwal Tahir, the Secretary-General of the group, who described the alleged plot as “obnoxious, the height of crude politics, a decimation of our societal values and conscious assault of our hard earned democracy”.
Tahir stated: “On June 25th, 2018, we received intelligence report from trusted personnel of the Defence Intelligence Agency of a grand plot by top politicians within the Presidency to link the unabating herdsmen attacks across the country to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
“While we trust the efficiency of these individuals, we decided to keep calm so as not to heighten the already tension-soaked political atmosphere across the country and the security implications of this, hoping that the proponents of this evil plot will perhaps give room for their conscience and look for a potent solution to ending the massacres across the country rather than take an easy road of politicizing their obvious security failures.
“However, we were presented with documents detailing the same plot by personnel of another intelligence agency last week.”
Tahir further accused the Nigerian intelligence agencies of opening “phony accounts in Atiku’s name linking a funding scheme between the accounts and militias from North Africa”.
He lamented that the plot is “obnoxious, the height of crude politics, a decimation of our societal values and conscious assault of our hard earned democracy” and it is in bad taste that politicians can go the extra mile just to score a cheap political point.
Tahir pointed out that election should be won in a dignified manner and not through blackmail and intimidation of political opponents.
He added that the Waziri Adamawa does not have any link with any militia or herdsmen and if the Federal Government uses the same energy it uses to hatch a plot like this, “the lives of Nigerians would have counted for something”.
